THE EARTH JUNKIES FOUNDATION
The Earth Junkies Foundation and the Arkwork Collective, have paired together to produced a groundbreaking new project that aims to inspire and enable children to find personal and creative ways to participate and meaningfully respond in the global ecological crisis. The Earth Junkies Foundation has focused its attention on children’s capacities to connect with nature and to connect with each other. From October to December 2011, the Earth Junkies Foundation led a dynamic programme on the Climate Train, a multi-media environmental education platform that travelled between 17 different communities across South Africa for 44 days, eventually ending at the United Nations COP17 climate negotiations, sharing the hopes, questions and imagined futures of over 700 children, in 7 different languages, from the Western Cape, Northern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and Kwa-Zulu Natal. Since then the Earth Junkies team has refined this project into the IMAGINATION ADVENTURE, where they have conducted research and development in other communities in rural Kwa-Zulu Natal, indigenous communities in Venda, the Wild Coast, Western Cape and North West Province. To date the Earth Junkies Foundation has worked with over 1000 children, in 24 communities. Drawing from this research the Earth Junkies Foundation has established a full strategy to take their methods and practices to the rest of Africa, the Middle East, Europe and eventually globally.
Earth Junkies Foundation has worked with over 1000 children, in 24 communities, in 7 different languages across South Africa, and is ready to begin working further into Africa.
To make this IMAGINATION ADVENTURE move further afield and to connect to more children, the Earth Junkies Foundation is collaborating with the Arkwork Collective, a not for Profit Organization based in South Africa. Founded in 2004, they have been involved with a variety of creative youth development and education projects in South Africa. Their main goal is to revive the connection children have to the natural world, culture and society through the use of arts-based methods. Currently other projects have included productions for the National Arts Festival, community engagement and capacity development with vulnerable youth living off or near municipal landfills and more recently the building of a Music School in an underprivileged community in the Eastern Cape South Africa in association with the South African lottery.
This collaboration brings together dynamic professionals from a variety of different fields, from Environmental, Arts, Heritage and Music Educators and researchers, Film makers, radio personalities/presenters/producers, visual artists, and other creative and dynamic artisans.
The Arkwork Collective and the Earth Junkies Foundation houses the IMAGINATION ADVENTURE, and is seeking sponsorship and endorsements from a variety of companies they have identified and would like to collaborate with us.
